The problems faced by displaced people and those who live in war zones are of great concern to students involved in IFMSA-USA. Students involved in our projects participate in relief efforts and work for the prevention of conflicts and human rights abuses.

Disasters and Emergencies Medical Student Network

Officially recognized as an IFMSA Transnational Project.

The Disasters and Emergencies Medical Students’ Network provides the countries of IFMSA with a well-coordinated medical students’ network of quick response in cases of disasters and emergencies (D&E) on a local, national and international level. Coordinated with local, national and international emergency offices and organizations, medical students are organized in location of D&E to help on terrain work with basic medical care, assistance on rescue, information to community, recollection and delivery of medications and goods. When major aid is needed, assistance is called on national levels (entire NMO), or expanded to other NMO’s, so students from locations far away from D&E site mobilize on campaigns of recollection of goods and supplies according to the needs referred by the Local Committee or NMO where disaster occurred. D&E national coordinators contact National Emergency Offices immediately after D&E and through a central information office coordinate and direct groups of medical students according to needs.
