IFMSA aims to raise awareness among medical students about reproductive health including sexual education, gender equity, sexual violence, as well as Sexually Transmitted Infections.
  REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH INCLUDING AIDS

IFMSA-USA is not currently working on any national projects in the area of Reproductive Health - HIV/AIDS. For information on international projects that address reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, please visit the websites of our Village Projects. If you are interested in coordinating one of the following national projects, please attend our National Convention and run for office!

These are the national projects that are available for coordination.

  HIV-AIDS Peer Education National Model
In 2002, the IFMSA Standing Committee On Reproductive Health and AIDS established its vision to become the premier HIV-AIDS peer education organization in the world. The IFMSA-USA HIV-AIDS Peer Education National Model is our contribution to this goal. Medical students maintain a unique added value as peer educators – having been exposed to some formal medical training on HIV and AIDS, yet young enough to be taken seriously by younger peers. The HIV-AIDS Peer Education National Model represents a dramatic effort to upscale the training of medical students as peer educators in America. A weeklong national “Training of Trainers” workshop will be conducted for select medical students, who will then conduct local training workshops for other medical at their schools and in their regions. These students will also begin peer education programs in their communities, conducting outreach projects both with local middle and high school students, and groups of young adults. Students will also have the opportunity to apply these skills internationally, as peer education outreach programs will also be incorporated into the Village Projects of IFMSA-USA.

Medical Student Candlelight Memorial
IFMSA-USA participates actively in the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, a program of the Global Health Council. Throughout the country, international health groups at medical schools remember the human toll of HIV-AIDS through Candlelight Memorial vigils in their communities. As a member of the Global Health Council, IFMSA-USA encourages its student members and local affiliates to participate in and assist with the organization of these events. In so doing, IFMSA-USA assists the efforts of the Global Health Council to raise awareness of HIV-AIDS – the sentinel global health challenge for physicians of the next generation.
